A New Year at last. 2020 was tough. 2021 we had hoped for redemption. Now, in 2022, we have our sights set on moving mountains, and we want you to come along with us. Regardless of the world around us and its chaos, we have the power when we wake up every day to decide what kind of day it is going to be.
However, when it comes to goal setting, the motivation shadows us in the month of January but often disappears shortly after. How many times have you set a New Year’s resolution just for it to die out in February? Individuals and business owners alike use this month to get a better idea of where they are headed for the new year. It’s no secret that the formula for success starts with setting goals, but how can we stick with them?

If you aren’t setting a goal that will motivate you – why are you doing it? Creating and setting goals that spark an inner fire within us are goals that we will stick with through the tough times. If your goals are intrinsically motivating you, you have more to gain by achieving them. Setting a goal with little interest in the outcome lessens the chances of you putting in the work to make them happen.
Here are some goals that are motivating us for 2022 at Moayyer Real Estate:
Use the SMART Goal method to make sure your goals are clear and reachable. SMART is an acronym that stands for:
〉S-Specific (simple, sensible, significant)
〉M-Measurable (meaningful, motivating)
〉A-Achievable (agreed, attainable)
〉R-Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based)
〉T-Time-bound (time-based, time-limited, time-sensitive)
Once you identify goals that motivate you, the next step is to write them down and be specific! Some of us have no problem with this, we stick to the old school pen and paper for just about everything. But some of us have taken advantage of the multitude of technologies out there to keep us accountable. Regardless of where you stand on writing things down – we could all use a little boost of accountability.
Example: I will exercise more often.
It’s important to have measurable goals so you can track your progress and stay motivated! Assessing progress will help you stay focused, meet your deadlines and feel the excitement as you get closer to achieving your goal.
Example: I will exercise three times a week.
Your goals have to be attainable and realistic if you’re going to be successful. How are you going to accomplish this goal? Is it realistic?
Example: I will schedule exercise on my calendar three times every week.
To make sure that your goal is motivating, write down why it’s valuable and important to you. If you can’t come up with an answer, odds are you probably won’t stick with it. Taking the time to physically write down a goal makes it much more real and tangible for those who are setting them. Remember, sticky notes are our friends!!
Example: I will look hot and feel confident in my bathing suit this summer because I will be consistently exercising three times a week starting January 1.
Every goal needs a deadline to help prevent everyday tasks from taking priority over your goals. We plan our workload by starting at the target date and working backward, setting milestones and mini-goals along the way.
Example: I will try on my bathing suit every month and be ready for summer clothes by June 1.
Hindsight 20/20? It’s a real thing. And as much as we’d like to avoid any negative thinking as we start the New Year, we don’t want the same mistakes to happen twice. Let’s avoid hindsight as much as we can in 2022. Revisiting obstacles that might be in your way this year is a great way to stay ahead of recurring issues.
Think back, what interrupted your flow of things previously? What can you do to avoid that same outcome? Was it a result of poor planning? Unpreparedness? Did you straight up forget? It happens, we are all human. Identify what went wrong in 2021 so that it doesn’t show up in 2022.
Set Mini-Goals and Reward Yourself
Mary Kay Ash used to say that you could eat an elephant a bite at a time. Set smaller goals along the way and reward yourself when you achieve them!
Find an Accountability Buddy and Check-in Frequently
Who is a positive force in your life who isn’t afraid to hold you accountable? Identify that person, learn about their goals, and check-in with each other for a progress report. Don’t be afraid to have the hard conversations when each other slips, remind yourselves of why you are working towards these goals and celebrate the WINS!
